Terms & Conditions

DRAFT — not legal advice. This is a working draft that describes how Playza currently operates. It has NOT been reviewed by a qualified lawyer and must be checked by a legal/privacy professional before you rely on it. Bracketed items like [OPERATOR LEGAL NAME] still need to be filled in.

1. About these terms

Playza ("Playza", "we", "us") is a free online platform for playing multiplayer mini-games such as chess, checkers, battleship and more. These Terms & Conditions form an agreement between you and the operator of Playza. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. The service is operated by [OPERATOR LEGAL NAME], based in Moldova. [Full legal entity details and registered address — to confirm.]

2. The service

Playza lets you create or join game rooms and play against other people or computer opponents, with optional features such as chat, emotes, ratings, leaderboards, tournaments, achievements, friends and game replays. The service is provided free of charge. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.

3. Eligibility and your account

You must be old enough to use the service under the law of your country (see the "Children" section of the Privacy Policy). To use most features you create an account with an email address, a username and a password. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for everything that happens under your account. Provide accurate information, keep it up to date, and do not share your account or use someone else’s. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

4. Code of conduct (acceptable use)

To keep Playza fair and friendly, you agree NOT to: • cheat, use bots, automation, or external assistance (for example a chess engine in human games), or exploit bugs; • harass, threaten, bully, or abuse other players; • post hateful, discriminatory, sexual, violent, or otherwise illegal or harmful content; • impersonate other people, staff, or Playza itself; • spam, advertise, phish, or share malicious links; • disrupt or attack the service, other players’ connections, or our infrastructure; • attempt to access data, accounts, or areas you are not authorised to access; • use the service to break any applicable law. Choose usernames, display names, avatars and chat that follow these rules.

5. Your content

You are responsible for the content you create — usernames, display names, bios, avatars, chat messages and similar ("User Content"). You keep any rights you have in your User Content. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, display and transmit that content for the purpose of operating and moderating the service. Do not post content you do not have the right to share, or that breaks the code of conduct above.

6. Moderation and enforcement

We may review reports and moderate content and behaviour. Where we consider it necessary, and at our reasonable discretion, we may remove content, hide or mute messages, restrict features, suspend, or permanently ban accounts — with or without prior notice, depending on the severity. Serious or repeated breaches (such as cheating, harassment, or hate speech) can lead to an immediate and permanent ban. You can report other players in the app.

7. Intellectual property

The Playza name, branding, site design, original artwork and code are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. You may not copy, resell, or create derivative platforms from them without permission. Playza also uses open-licensed assets, which remain under their own licences, including: • "Cburnett" chess pieces — by Wikimedia Commons user Cburnett, triple-licensed GFDL / BSD / GPLv2+; • the Stockfish chess engine — GNU GPL v3; • the chess.js rules library — open-source (BSD/MIT-style); • the web fonts and icon set used in the interface, under their respective licences. These remain the property of their authors and are used under those licences.

8. Third-party services

We rely on third parties to run Playza — for example Supabase (authentication, database and storage), Vercel (hosting), an analytics provider, and, only if enabled in the future and only with your consent, an advertising provider such as Google AdSense. Your use of the service also involves their systems; see the Privacy Policy for details.

9. Availability and "as is"

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We do not promise that the service will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that match results, ratings, or data will never be lost, or that it will meet your particular needs.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud). [The exact wording and any liability cap should be confirmed by a lawyer for your jurisdiction.]

11. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time (see the Privacy Policy for how to delete your account and data). We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service. Some provisions — such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and limitation of liability — continue to apply after termination.

12. Changes to the service and these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, provide a more prominent notice. By continuing to use the service after changes take effect, you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of [JURISDICTION — to confirm; the operator is based in Moldova], without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of [JURISDICTION — to confirm] will have jurisdiction, unless mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence gives you additional rights. [This clause must be confirmed by a lawyer, especially for EU consumers.]
